The meeting was held at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, Wellington, New Zealand, March 5th to 9th, 2012. The NW area business meeting was called to order on March 9th, at 8:39AM by Vice President John Shaffroth. Eleven members attended the business meeting. ***** Previous Meeting Minutes *****
Minutes of the Fall 2011 meeting were read by Dave Bennett (BC Hydro). Minor errors were pointed out by John Shaffroth (Pacificorp) with regards to incorrect company names. Dave Bennett agreed to amend the minutes, with corrections. Bobbie Roberts (NWE) moved to accept the minutes as amended and was seconded by Erica Simpson (BC Hydro).

***** Report of Area Secretary *****
Dave Bennett (BC Hydro) pointed out that the APDA NW area Facebook group page was up and running, with a current membership total of 29. All NW Area members are encouraged to join the group to help keep up with current APDA NW events, discussions, and notices. In order to join the group, follow the link: www.facebook.com/groups/305211386180667/ Then, ask to join, and you will be part of the group within a few days, if not sooner. If you don’t already have a Facebook account, you will be prompted to sign up at some part in the process. Once part of the group, feel free to post pictures, join discussions, and so on!
***** Report of Area Treasurer *****
Chris McDarment (CHPD) presented the treasurer’s report (see attached). A total area balance of $29,372.10 was reported, as of March 2nd, 2012.
***** Report of Area Trustee *****
Bobbie Roberts (NWE) noted that there has not been a National meeting since the 2011 Fall NW Area meeting in Las Vegas, therefore nothing to report. The next National APDA meeting is to be held May 30th – June 1st, 2012, at the Sheraton Duluth Hotel, Duluth, MN. Bobbie plans to attend this meeting on behalf of the NW APDA.
***** Report of Nominating Committee*****
Discussion of the Chairs procession was held. Dave Bennett nominated Bobbie Roberts to the position of Trustee, motion seconded by Neil Molendyk. Shelby Burchett motioned Dave Bennett to the Secretary position. Erica Simpson seconded and the position was filled.

*****Report from the Vice President*****
John Shaffroth (Pacificorp) reported that the next NW Area meeting is scheduled to be held October 8th – 12th, 2012, at Leavenworth, WA. This will be a joint NW and SW Area meeting. The meeting will be hosted by GCPD, CHPD, and DCPD. The 2013 Spring meeting is to be held in Vancouver, BC, hosted by BC Hydro, with joint participation from the NWPP.
Shirt Committee - Melissa LaChapelle (Pacificorp) agreed to work with Jim Wilson on the shirt committee. Chris McDarment discussed currently available shirts.
Scholarship Committee - Chris McDarment (CHPD), Dave Bennett (BC Hydro): A reminder notice will be sent out to the membership regarding the April 1st NW scholarship deadline.
Nominating Committee - Bobbie Roberts (NWE), Dave Bennett (BC Hydro), and Ron Roy (CHPD): nothing to report as there are no current officer vacancies.
***** Unfinished Business *****
Chris McDarment (CHPD) detailed progress of the ongoing USB stick project, whereby every NW Area member was to receive an APDA logo emblazoned USB stick. He noted that he was able to secure a deal to obtain the sticks at wholesale prices. There was a brief group discussion about the project. Ron Roy (CHPD) suggested that the USB stick be pre-loaded with an APDA membership form, a scholarship application, a link to the NW Area website, and a link to the APDA NW Area Facebook group page. It was agreed that this was a good idea.
***** New Business *****
Arlen Simon (DCPD) started a discussion on scholarship raffle items. Many ideas were brought forward in the ensuing discussion as to items that might be offered as prizes at the banquet scholarship raffle.
Chris McDarment (CHPD) agreed to purchase cards to have on hand for this purpose.***** Report of Accident and Sickness *****
Erica Scott (Fortis BC) reported that Mark Hugget (Fortis BC) had recently had a heart attack, but was recovering well at home. She also reported that Dave Rebman (Fortis BC) was fighting cancer. Our thoughts are with these members, and we wish for them a full recovery.
