Doug Krust (CHPD), NW Area Treasurer, was unable to attend, but Chris McDarment (CHPD) read a report prepared by Doug. There are 299 paid members for 2010, which includes 39 new members and represents an increase total enrollment of 5 over the previous year. A balance sheet was made available for members to view. Doug has indicated a desire to step down as Area Treasurer and Jim Wilson (GCPD) is taking over the shirt program.
Doug urged people to stay involved or get more involved with the APDA organization. He thanked Gayle Taylor (Avista) for her work on the webpage; Marck Robinson (Power data) for his webpage, database hosting, and everything else he does for us; Dave Bennett for his tireless efforts as Trustee; Shannyn Sneed (Tesla) who helps tremendously with area meetings; and Matt Sidinsky and the SOS group for their support and efforts.

***** Report of Area Trustee *****

Dave Bennett (BCTC) gave a report on the national meetings. The full report is attached, but the highlight was that two national scholarships would continue to be awarded, but if only one applicant was deemed qualified, the entire amount could be awarded to one applicant.

***** Report from the Committees *****

Shirt Committee – Discussion led to a request for more size large shirts be at the next meeting as well as to consider coats, wind breakers, and additional purchase options such as directly buying from shirt company. Some ideas were to e-mail shirt committee chairman, Jim Wilson (GCPD) ahead of the following meeting and he would bring the order to the meeting. Another idea was to have the shirt company ship directly to people, but that would add shipping and handling.

Scholarship Committee – There was some discussion about requirements for the scholarship, including a request from the committee to consider giving two scholarships this year (and on a case by case basis in future years). After discussion, James Farran (BPA) made a motion to give the scholarship committee authorization to either give out two scholarships or no scholarship depending on the qualifications of applicants. Bob Wesselink (PGE) seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Nominating Committee – Bobbie Roberts (NWE) and Dave Bennett (BCTC) reported that there was an opening for Treasurer and nominated Chris McDarment (CHPD) to become the new Treasurer; passed unanimously. This opened the position of Vice President and John Schaffroth (Pacificorp) was nominated for this postion; passed unanimously. Although the floor was opened for other nominations for these positions, no one else was nominated. Chris will need to get put on the bank accounts as the new treasurer and authorized person.

***** Unfinished Business *****

None

***** New Business *****

Melissa LaChapelle (Pacificorp) requested a “big” e-mail list with all members e-mail on it so that someone organizing a meeting or needing to contact the NW area members could do so easily. Some discussion occurred where it was mentioned that perhaps not all members would want to be on a big e-mail list, but it was agreed to see what could be done.

Dave Kokiw (Fortis BC) wanted to know if the Fall meeting in Kelowna, BC was going to be a joint meeting as well since he needed to know for planning purposes. Greg Rahn (AESO) agreed to talk to Larry Bellnap (CISO and SW area president) after the meeting.

Greg Rahn (AESO) mentioned that we should consider doing a joint Fall Meeting with the SW area as they are having it in Napa, CA. He also mentioned that although the 2012 spring meeting is still 2 years away, it will be hosted by Transpower NZ in Wellington, New Zealand so travel arrangements should be made as early as possible. CEHs will be provided.

Mellisa LaChapelle (Pacificorp) requested a new committee be made up for planning the following meeting. The committee would consist of the last two meeting hosts and the next meeting host (but may want make it the next TWO meeting hosts.) This would help save information and increase continuity. Should consider Michelle Wynne (Tesla) as well for a standing member.

2010 Golf Trophy for shortest drive off the tee was awarded to the SW area for bagging out because they might get wet on the golf course.

***** Report of Accident and Sickness *****

Ken Lee’s wife June has a cell embolism and is in the hospital. She is doing OK, but has a long road to go.

Dennis Olson (GCPD) passed away just before Christmas.

***** Good of the Association *****

Gator (PACE) opened discussion for giving money to help sick people in the membership. A lot of discussion followed, but it was decided that it would be difficult to keep track of and what would we do if someone got sick, but healed in between meetings versus if someone got sick at the “right” time just before a meeting. It was also a concern that the amount we could give could only be a “token” amount. However, we were still concerned about the membership so Gator (PACE) made a motion for any member to bring any known sickness of a member (or relative) to an officer’s attention and we will send flowers and a note to them. Melissa LaChapelle (Pacificorp) seconded and it passed unanimously.
