Joint Spring 2005 Meeting
May 18 - 19, 2005
Burnabby, British Columbia (Vancouver, BC)

The 2005 Northwest Power Pool (NWPP) System Dispatchers and Northwest Area American Power Dispatchers Association (APDA) joint meeting will be held in Burnaby, British Columbia May 18-19, 2005, at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown.  The Hilton Vancouver Metrotown is located at 6083 McKay Avenue; Burnaby BC V5H 2W7 Canada. 

On May 18th the joint meeting will commence at 8:00 a.m. and conclude by 5:00 p.m.  The May 19th meeting will commence at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 12:00 p.m.  A tour of BCTC Burnaby Mountain Control Centre will be provided on the afternoon of May 19th for those who would like to participate from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.  Following the tour an APDA Business meeting will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  

Meeting Process

The meeting will be conducted under standard business practices and procedures.  Business casual attire is acceptable.  

Continuing Education Hours (8 hours of CEH available)

In order to make this meeting as effective as possible, eight (8) of the fourteen (14) hours have been qualified to receive both NERC and WECC continuing education hours (CEH).  However, to meet the NERC requirements and to allow for presentation of CEH certificates at the meeting, the attached Attendee Requirements Roster must be completed and return to the NWPP offices prior to the start of this meeting.  You will receive the respective credit for the four listed agenda items, if and only if you are present during the entire agenda item presentation.  During this meeting you may elect to receive up to eight (8) hours of Both NERC and WECC CEH or as few as one CEH.  The Attendees Requirement Roster should be faxed to 503-464-2819.  Please note this is NOT same fax as the Meeting Registration Form. 

NWPP & APDA Members -- Attendance Guidelines

If you plan to attend the meeting, please complete and promptly submit the attached Meeting Registration Form.  In order to accelerate registration check-in on the first day of the meeting, there will be a pre-registration closing date of May 4, 2005.  The Meeting Registration Forms may be faxed to (604) 293-5892 or E-mailed to david.bennett@bctc.com.

Hotel Arrangements

A special room rate has been negotiated at the Vancouver Hilton Metrotown for the nights of May 17 to May 19, 2005 for those identifying with the Northwest Power Pool Group.  The standard room rate is $120 Canadian dollars plus tax for single/double occupancy.  An additional per person charge of $20.00 will apply beyond two hotel guests per room.  Reservations may be made by dialing (604) 438-1200 no later than April 18, 2005 to assure availability and rate.  Rate and availability cannot be guaranteed after this date.

Please note:  The Room Reservation Cutoff Date April 18, 2005. 

Ground Transportation

The Vancouver Hilton Metrotown is approximately 25 minutes away from the airport.  Although the hotel is unable to provide transportation they coordinate transportation with Bonny’s Taxi.  Hotel guests will receive the flat rate of $27 Canadian dollars each way for using this taxi service.  Two or three people may fit in a taxi, luggage dependant.  If for some reason a Bonny’s Taxi is unavailable, ask the airport concierge to assist you for a “flat rate” taxi, otherwise plan to pay $35 Canadian dollars to the hotel.

APDA Hospitality Suite, Late Registration, and Check-In Time

The APDA will have a hospitality suite open on the evenings of the following dates:

May 17th – 7 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

May 18th – 7 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

May 19th – 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

 

Please refer to the hotel registration desk for the appropriate suite. Late meeting registration can be accommodated on the evening of May 17th.  The NWPP & APDA request pre-registration from anyone planning to attend this meeting no later than May 4, 2005.  

In addition, late registration and Check-In for the meeting will begin at 7:00 a.m. on the morning of May 18, 2005. All attendees, please be sure to check in at this time to allow the meeting to start promptly at 8:00 a.m.  Name tags and meeting material will be provided during the check-in. 

NWPP Evening Social

On the evening of May 18th the NWPP will be hosting an evening social, so please join us from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Waterford room’s 1 & 2 for hors d'oeuvres, with a no host bar. 

 

BCTC Burnaby Mountain Control Centre Tour

There will be a tour of the BCTC Burnaby Mountain Control Centre on the afternoon of May 19, 2005.   The tour group will need to meet in the hotel lobby by 1:00 p.m.  A shuttle has been arranged for and will pick up the tour group by 1:15 p.m., returning back to the hotel by 3:15 p.m.

 

APDA Banquet & Golf Tournament -- Attendance Guidelines

An APDA Banquet Dinner is being held on the evening of May 19th and an APDA Golf Tournament on the day of May 20th for APDA members and their prospective guests.  The following fees will apply to those whom choose to participate in these events:

 

$75 CDN or $60 USD/Member – APDA Registration & Dinner

$45 CDN or $35 USD/Guest (Spouse) – APDA Dinner 

$57 CDN or Member or Guest – APDA Golf Tournament (this fee includes the tournament fee & $8 food credit)

 

If you plan to attend these events, it is necessary that you complete and submit the Meeting Registration Form.  The APDA Fee is required, payable in advance.  Golf is payable at the course, but please put a check-mark in the box on the registration form if you plan to attend.  Please fax or email the Meeting Registration Form to David Bennett, BCTC promptly, and then mail a copy of the registration form with a cheque(s) (check) payable to APDA no later than May 4, 2005.  Please make requests for company cheque’s (check’s) promptly.  Receipts will be made available to you at the registration table at this meeting.  As a reminder, credit cards cannot be accepted for method of payment and please, do not send cash in the mail.

The APDA Banquet Dinner will be held at the Vancouver Hilton Metrotown on the evening of May 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with no host bar.  Please refer to the hotel registration desk for the appropriate location.

 The APDA Golf Tournament will be held at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course with a tee-time beginning at 11:30 a.m.  A shuttle has been arranged to transport those whom wish to participate in this event.  Players will need to meet in the lobby no later than 10:30 a.m.  Please plan to be on time or arrange for your own transportation to the Golf Course.
